Girona, Napoleón y otros friquis

Hace algunas semanas, unos cuantos dibujantes de Barcelona fuimos a Girona para encontrarnos con el grupo de de allí y dibujar la reconstrucción del asedio por parte de las tropas napoleónicas que tuvo lugar en 1809. Un buen día y la agradable sensación de que los dibujantes callejeros no somos la gente más friki del mundo.

Some weeks ago some sketchers from Barcelona went to Girona to meet with with local sketchers and to draw the reconstruction of the siege by the napoleonic troops in 1809. A nice day and a good feeling that we sketchers are not the freakiest people in the world.

El de la izquierda es un miquelet (los miquelets son la milicia no regular tradicional de Cataluña), y el de la derecha un teniente del mismo cuerpo. Hasta aquí todo bien. El alucinante es el de azul en el centro que me cuenta que va de oficial de la Compañía de Ultonia, o sea... Irlanda!!! Resulta por aquella época hubo un fuerte alistamiento de irlandeses en el ejército español (católico, por supuesto) provocado por la represión de los Orange. De lo que se entera uno dibujando por ahí!

The one on the left side is a miquelet (miquelets are the tradicional catalan irregular militia) and the one on right side is a lieutenant of the same group. Everything's all right so far. The amazement starts when the guy in blue at the center tells me he's dressed as an officer of the Ultonia Company, so a company from... Ireland!!! Seems that on that times, there was a big enrolment of irish men on the spanish –catholic, of course– army caused by the repression of the Orange House. The things you learn drawing here and there!
