Girona, Napoleon and some other freaks
Some weeks ago some sketchers from Barcelona went to Girona to meet with with local sketchers and to draw the reconstruction of the siege by the napoleonic troops in 1809. A nice day and a good feeling that we sketchers are not the freakiest people in the world.
The one on the left side is a miquelet (miquelets are the tradicional catalan irregular militia) and the one on right side is a lieutenant of the same group. Everything's all right so far. The amazement starts when the guy in blue at the center tells me he's dressed as an officer of the Ultonia Company, so a company from... Ireland!!! Seems that on that times, there was a big enrolment of irish men on the spanish –catholic, of course– army caused by the repression of the Orange House. The things you learn drawing here and there!
Otro tipo disfrazado de soldado francés y una vista desde la muralla.
Another guy dressed up as a french soldier and a view from the city rampart.
Vista de las Casas del Onyar desde el Passeig de Canalejas, al otro lado del río.
A view of the Onyar houses from the Passeig de Canalejas on the opposite riverside.
